Delhi High Court gives deadline to various airlines to file affidavits
D.N.I.S. News Network - With a view to end arbitrariness in delivering services not only to disabled passengers but also to senior citizens, temporarily disabled, pregnant women, parents with young children in prams, people with heavy luggage etc., by private airline operators and Airport Authority of India, the Delhi High Court extended the deadline to submit the affidavit.
While hearing a petition filed by Disabled Rights Group (D.R.G.), Justices Virender Jain and S. N. Agarwal reprimanded the representatives of Indian Airlines, Jet Airways, Sahara Airlines, Air Deccan, and Kingfisher Airlines for their failure to respond to the Court Notice. Spice Jet Airlines had refused to even receive the Court Notice and did not send their representative. The Court ordered that General Manager of Spice Jet be present in the next hearing or coercive measure would be used to bring them to the Court.
The High Court has given four weeks’ time to all private airlines to explain what measures have they adopted to transport people from the terminal to the aircraft in a dignified manner. The case will now come up for hearing on 12 July 2006.
