C.B.R. Forum launches Postcard Campaign for new Disability Act
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: The demand for a new comprehensive disability law is getting bigger by the day. Community Based Rehabilitation (C.B.R.) Forum recently launched a Postcard Campaign to put further pressure on the Government.
The campaign titled “NO to amendments – YES to New Comprehensive Act on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities” encourages disabled people, activists and their supporters to send post cards to Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment (M.S.J.E.), Mukul Wasnik and Joint Secretary, M.S.J.E. Dr. Arbind Prasad with the message, “We need a new, single comprehensive Act on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (Respect for Dignity, Effective Participation and Inclusive Opportunities) in line with U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.”
According to C. Mahesh, Advocacy Coordinator, C.B.R. Forum, this decision follows a meeting of C.B.R. partners and is being done to mark the World Disability Day.
