Salil sails for access
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: On December 2, the eve of World Disability Day, Salil Chaturvedis boat, The Bombay Harbour Seabird will dock in Panjim, Goa. This wheelchair user is out on a risky sailing expedition to demand greater access for disabled persons.
Sponsored by Godrej Brighter Horizons, Salils boat is currently en route to Panjim, Goa after being flagged off from Mumbai on November 24. The journey spans over eight days and covers 240 nautical miles.
Through this expedition, Salil and his team intend to draw attention to the potential of persons with disabilities. Disabled people in India still cannot go out and do the most basic of things independently, such as shop, board public transport or go to public places. This sail is meant to showcase what can be achieved when people join hands and things are made accessible, Salil stated.
