Indian Blind Cricket League called off
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: Post the World Games disaster, another shocking news for the Indian disability sector. The Indian Blind Cricket League for visually impaired people, an international tournament which was scheduled for February 2010 has been called off due to lack of funds and a clash with preparations of Commonwealth Games next year.
This news comes close on the heels of a statement by Pratik Prakashbapu Patil, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports in the Lok Sabha claiming that the Ministry was committed to promoting sports for disabled people. According to the Minister, Rs. 316.77 lakh was allocated to Paralympics Committee of India, Rs. 148.02 lakh was allocated to Special Olympic Bharat and Rs. 102.75 lakh was allocated to All India Sports Council for Deaf since 2006.
The recent fiasco at the World Games in Bengaluru brought to light the rampant corruption in the guise of 'disability sports'. Crores of tax payers' money is being spent with zero accountability. It is high time the Indian disability sector demands an explanation from the Government.
