Delhi Gurudwaras go disabled-friendly

D.N.I.S. News Network- Prominent Gurudwaras in Delhi have been made accessible to people with disabilities and senior citizens in the past few months with ramps and lifts being added to facilitate barrier-free environment in these Sikh religious places.

Ramps have been built in Bangla Sahib, Rakab Ganj and Guru Nanak Sewak Gurudwaras, according to Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee Paramjeet Singh Sarna.

He said the move was long overdue and has been appreciated widely by visitors to these shrines as people with disability and aged used to have great difficulty climbing stairs and moving about in the premises. The choice of these three Gurudwaras was made in view of the heavy traffic of people and general popularity of these places.

On plans for adding these features to other gurudwaras in the Capital, he said as of now lifts have been installed at Bangla Sahib and Shisganj Sahib and plans are afoot to make others also barrier free.
