Governor intervenes; Disabled boy readmitted in school

D.N.I.S. News Network – Ravi Ranjan, a Class XI student at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Ranchi, whose legs are afflicted by polio, was recently dismissed from school on the ground that he found it difficult to climb the stairs to attend Zoology class which was on the first floor of the building. With pressure from all quarters of society, including the Governor, the school has allowed the student to rejoin.

All this, despite Ravi Ranjan’s parents having informed the school management about his physical condition at the time of admission. Ravi’s father Suresh Paswan had also assured the school management in writing that they would not be held responsible for any problem their son might face while attending classes.

In just two months’ time, the management took an opposite view, telling the parents to withdraw the boy from school. The Principal had gone on record that the student’s physical constraints would not only create problems for him, but also his colleagues. He even went to the extent of instructing the school bus conductor not to allow Ravi to board the bus.

But thanks to the intervention of the Governor of Jharkhand Syed Sibtey Razi, and pressure from the people, the school has reversed its decision. The Governor has asked the Chief Secretary M.K. Mandal to ensure that the boy is not expelled. He has gone one step further, and sought a report from the H.R.D. department and the district administration on the incident.

Earlier, Paswan had moved the Jharkhand Education Tribunal demanding action against the school management for expelling his son. Now that the school has taken back his son, he has decided to withdraw the case.
