D.U. to implement three per cent reservation for disabled teachers, students

D.N.I.S. News Network – Better late than never! Well, Delhi University (D.U.) has finally decided to make its campus ‘truly’ equal by ensuring that the three per cent reservation for disabled teachers and students is finally implemented.

Suddenly waking up from its slumber, D.U. realised that at present, there are only 1,000 physically disabled students in D.U. and hardly any disabled teachers. It is now trying to make amends, and has asked colleges to advertise department-wise vacancies for teachers, in an effort to fulfill the reservation quota within the faculty. As per reports, Dean of Colleges Shirin Rathore has said, “The University has asked all colleges to advertise the vacancies that they have department-wise so that disabled teachers can apply. There have been cases where people have applied and have been told that there is no space in the department for them.”

But there are colleges that have already acted in a responsible manner, such as Swami Shraddhanand College, which has recently appointed four disabled teachers. The College Principal J.L. Bhat said, “All the candidates that we have selected are very highly qualified and were better educated than the general category applicants. We have two physically disabled teachers and two teachers who are visually impaired.” Disabled teachers have also been appointed in Kirori Mal College and Kalindi College.
