U.P. Government asks all its departments hold recruitment examination on ground floor
D.N.I.S. News Network – In an early victory for the nascent N.C.P.E.D.P. Disability Law Unit (D.L.U.) – North, at Indian Association of Handicapped (I.A.H.) Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh Government has asked all its departments to take into consideration difficulties faced by examinees with disabilities while conducting recruitment exams and has instructed authorities concerned to allot ground floor rooms for the exams.
The issue was taken up by D.L.U. following a case involving an orthopaedically disabled candidate, Dipendra Kumar Singh, who was allotted a room on the first floor for appearing in a State Government recruitment exam, thus subjecting him to great difficulty.
The issue was brought to the notice of D.L.U. and was taken up with the States’ Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. Following an intervention by the Office, the Government of U.P. took cognisance of the demand and issued an Order.
In the Order, the then Chief Secretary, Nira Yadav, all senior Officials and Department heads in the State Government that: “Though the allotment of examination centres and rooms are made on the basis of the enrolment number, in cases where the number of candidates is high, the administration should make arrangements to provide ground floor rooms to candidates with disabilities.”
The order further adds: “Officials in-charge of examination centres are collectively instructed to make arrangements as per this Order.”
