Alzheimer’s gene only in old age: Study
D.N.I.S. News Network According to a new study, a gene that predisposes its carriers to Alzheimers disease appears to get activated only in old age and has nothing to do with mental declines that are sometimes seen early in life.
In an article in the January issue of Neuropsychology, Australian researchers have said the gene, A.P.O.E.4., does not appear active until very late in life.
They evaluated the cognitive powers of 6,560 people regularly over the last 20 years, testing functions that are normally affected by Alzheimers including memory, mental speed, reaction time and reading vocabulary.
