G.P.D.D. Task Force holds meeting in Delhi

D.N.I.S. News Network – The Global Partnership for Disability & Development (G.P.D.D.) Task Force held a planning meeting in New Delhi from 29 January – 02 February 2007, at the invitation of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The meeting focused on the following areas:

  • Considered issues and proposals concerning the membership and governance of G.P.D.D. and approved a draft G.P.D.D. Charter.
  • Reviewed and adopted a 3-year G.P.D.D. Work Plan of activities and budget.
  • Agreed to support and participate in the preparation of the W.H.O. World Report on Disability, Rehabilitation and Inclusion.
  • Presented the Work Plan and Budget, received feedback and learned about donor-funded disability programmes from donor representatives from D.F.I.D., Finland, G.T.Z., Italian Cooperation, J.I.C.A., U.S.A.I.D., J.B.I.C., U.N.E.S.C.A.P. and the World Bank.
  • Considered and approved creation of a G.P.D.D. Secretariat, to be located in Washington, D.C.
  • Approved the recruitment of a G.P.D.D. Executive Director pending confirmation of funding.
  • Considered and accepted an offer by the Italian Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy to host a branch of the G.P.D.D. Secretariat in Rome.
  • Approved the convening of a G.P.D.D. Partners Meeting in 2008, pending confirmation of funding.

The three G.P.D.D. Working Groups on Education, Poverty Reduction, and on Disasters, Emergencies and Conflicts, held a meeting with representatives of Government and Civil Society Organisations in India to learn about technical resources in the country and how they might contribute to the work of the Working Groups. The workplan, budget and draft charter will be circulated shortly.

(Uganda), Andreas Pruisken, C.B.M. (Germany), Bob Ransom, Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (Ethiopia), Diane Richler, Inclusion International (Canada), Nicola Shepard, U.N., D.E.S.A. (U.S.A.), Dr. Harold Snider, World Blind Union (U.S.A.), and Ron Wiman, STAKES (Finland).

G.P.D.D. support staff attached to the World Bank: Judy Heumann (U.S.A.) and Lene Astrup (Denmark).
