Disabled rights champion, Lal Advani, passes away
DNIS News Network - Lal Advani, a pioneer in the field of disability rehabilitation in India , passed away on 1 March, at the age of 82.
Advani did not let his blindness come in the way of his work for the blind and other disabled people in the country. He was one of the Founder Members of the Disabled Rights Group, which was instrumental in the passage of the Disability Act in 1995.
He served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Social Welfare, besides working as Director of the National Institute for Visually Handicapped, Dehradun. Advani was also the Secretary of the Asian Blind Union.
