Parents to insure themselves to ensure lifelong care for their children
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: Parents of children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, or multiple disabilities can now get themselves insured under a special insurance scheme. The scheme will ensure that when they are no longer there, the state will use the insurance money to give lifelong care to their child.
Called Asmita, the scheme is due be launched shortly by the National Trust, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (M.S.J.E.). It is expected that around 10,000 parents will enroll in the first year itself.
