Concessions for students with learning disabilities

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: Solving mathematical problems will be a lesser ordeal for XI and XII standard students with learning disabilities in Karnataka! They can now carry calculators to the examination hall, take an extra hour to write their examinations and even spelling mistakes made by them in the answer scripts will not be taken into account. This was announced in a circular issued by the Karnataka government recently.

But to claim such a concession, a student must first obtain a certificate from a competent authority like N.I.M.H.A.N.S. in Bangalore, Malleswaram Dyslexia Association or the All India Hearing and Speech Institute in Mysore and prove his/her learning disability. Government hospital psychiatrists may also be approached for a certificate.

After having obtained a certificate, a student with learning disability will have to apply to the Pre - University Board through his/her college and based on their recommendation, concession will be given. Earlier, this concession was applicable only to X standard students.
