Special Olympics Bharat gives disabled children a 'sporty' life

DNIS News Network -- Seeing the change in her disabled daughter after she returned from the Special Olympics meet in Dublin, Kumi Chandra realised the need to involve parents of special children into a body, Special Olympics Bharat (SOB), which will work to give these children a "happy present and future".

Due to the insensitive behaviour that disabled children face in all areas, especially in public parks and playgrounds, SOB decided to give them an arena to boost their self esteem and display their talents. The organisation has planned several projects to achieve its goal, the most noteworthy one being the Delhi State Games in February 2004. Also on the agenda are picnics and sport meets to instill confidence in children with disabilities. Special coaches have also been organised for this purpose.

Chandra states that Vasant Valley School has been of great help to their projects, and hopes that more Delhi schools will come forward and help in creating a special world for children with special needs.
