India soon to eradicate polio
DNIS News Network -- Only 170 polio cases have been reported up to November 10 this year, in contrast to the 1,000 cases reported last year up to November 2002.
Although the lowering of polio cases reported is a commendable improvement, experts state that the next few months are crucial in achieving a substantial breakthrough in polio transmission in the country.
The worst affected areas are Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and the 24 Parganas in West Bengal. India still lags behind in its attempt to eradicate polio while most countries of the world, including the developing nations of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, have already achieved this goal.
