People with disabilities to get preference in house allotment
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: The Government of Delhi has decided to give preference to people with disabilities in allotment of industrial housing units, sheds and plots in Delhi as a matter of policy with immediate effect. This would include 1 percent reservation in allotment of industrial plots, housing flats and built-up sheds and 5 percent reservation in allotment of shops and kiosks on the ground floor. A concession of 5 percent to a maximum of Rs. 1 lakh on the cost of these units will also be available to people with disabilities.The policy has put safeguards in place to prevent abuse of this provision. As per the policy, the units allotted to persons with disabilities cannot be transferred for upto 15 years from delivery or possession. This clause will bind legal heirs of the allottee in the event of the latters death before the stipulated period of 15 years is over.
