Javed Abidi files nomination to stand as an independent candidate
DNIS News Network -- Javed Abidi, a well-known disabled rights activist, filed his nomination from the New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency as an Independent candidate.
Abidi appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise to bring about a change in the lives of 50 million disable children. He asked people to vote for accountability.
Abidi has a 15-year record of social activism, which bears testimony to his leadership, advocacy and his involvement in the area of legislation for the disabled. He said: "More than 5 per cent of Indian people are disabled. They remain invisible. By supporting me, you can help more than 70 million Indians come out of the shadows and demand what is theirs by right. Please vote to make the invisible, visible." He added: "There should be adequate representation of people from the social sector who are accessible."
