Registration of special category vehicles caught in red tape
D.N.I.S. News Network, India: In May this year, the government made it mandatory for registration of all vehicles under the special category of ‘invalid carriages’ anywhere in the country, to be approved by the Department of Road Transport in Delhi. It now takes months for disabled people to get their vehicles registered, something which earlier used to take not more than a day!
People with disabilities are now being forced to register even modified vehicles as regular L.M.V.s. A direct fall out of this is that people with licenses to drive only ‘invalid carriages’ would not be able to drive! Also disabled people who buy new cars cannot get the tax waiver given to special category vehicles.
