Afshari is an angel for children

DNIS News Network -- Tucked away in Khar, Mumbai, is a school pioneering work with children challenged with multiple disabilities.

Set up in June 2002, Little Angels School is an institution for children challenged with multiple disabilities. The school, tucked away on the ground floor of the Rao Memorial Municipal school in Khar, Mumbai, is the place where you will find Jehangir Afshari's, the principal of Little Angels School, desk. Despite a lack of space, funds and 75 children still on the waiting list, 52 children are learning and growing here.

The students are first observed and tested to determine their actual difficulties and whether the school will be able to help them. The children in this school are taught tolerance, communication skills, pre-reading and pre-writing skills.

The students are also coached for the National Open School exams while occupational therapists, psychiatrists and speech therapists help these students fight their problems on a daily basis. The education course is not by any means restricted to the classroom: nature walks, weekly trips to parks, beaches and swimming lessons at Khar Gymkhana are an integral part of the curriculum.
