IAS officer trainees sensitised about disability-related issues

DNIS News Network - On November 21, the next generation of India's bureaucrats were sensitised about 'Issues relating to differently abled persons'. This was the theme of a talk given by Javed Abidi, Executive Director of the cross-disability organisation, NCPEDP.

Abidi emphasised that disabled people seek the support of the people in providing them an accessible and healthy environment without prejudice, which is their right. They do not need anybody's sympathy.

He was speaking to 216 young officers, selected after the 2003 Civil Services exam, at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. The Academy conducts a foundation course for Group 'A' Central Services and all-India services (such as the IAS, IPS, IFS, IFoS, IRS, Railway Services, etc). This course provides a basic introduction to the officer trainees on government and administration, besides inputs on law, public administration, economics, political concepts and the Constitution of India, etc.
