D.N.I.S. News Network, India: After having recently launched an exclusive website on Indian Sign Language, deaf groups have now taken the issue of access a little further. Association of Sign Language Interpreters (A.S.L.I.) has organized a two-day conference and workshop to be held on February 13 and 14 at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The conference will deal with various aspects of access that deaf people face.
Deaf, deaf blind people, teachers, government staff, interpreters, potential interpreters and linguists etc. are expected to gather at this 2nd National Conference of Indian Sign Language Interpreters. Key aspects such as the future of interpreting in India, providing support to interpreters and sensitizing government on the importance of sign language for the deaf community are some of the issues that will be discussed.
