Disability finds no mention in India’s Universal Periodic Review

D.N.I.S. News Network, India: Indias Universal Periodic Review (U.P.R.) at the Human Rights Council took place in Geneva on May 24. Despite huge efforts by the National Disability Network (N.D.N.) in filing a Stakeholders Report to the Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (O.H.C.H.R.) and lobbying with various Geneva based country missions, disability did not find any mention in the review. This speaks volumes for the apathy that even the global community has towards disability issues.

The final report of the review and the recommendations is not yet released. But there is not a single mention of disability in the questions submitted in advance from various Member Nations. A very big disappointment for more than 70 million people with disabilities in the country!

This was Indias second U.P.R.
