DNIS News Network -- The National Centre for the Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPEDP) is close to completing an in-depth study on disability provision in educational institutions across India.
The survey, funded by a grant from Italian organisation Amici Di Raoul Follereau (AIFO), will cover the 28 states and seven Union Territories of India. Questionnaires were sent to schools, colleges and Universities and a total of 272 had been returned by May 11. The final deadline for returns is May 31, after which the results will be analysed to provide the fullest picture of the access and education of disabled students in mainstream schools.
NCPEDP will use the information gained to highlight the status (or lack of status) awarded to disability education in India. It will also indicate areas where intervention is needed in order to ensure that the education of disabled children becomes a priority for educators and policy makers.
