DNIS News Network - ASTHA organised a two-day workshop from 2 to 3 April, 2005, on the ‘Implementation of the Persons with Disability, Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act’.
The workshop focussed on providing information on how provisions of the Act have been used by members of society; generating awareness on how to use the law and chapters on education, employment, non-discrimination, social security and institutions for persons with severe disability. The workshop was attended by members of organisations working in the field of disability, parents associations, and associations of persons with disability, lawyers and others.
The two-day workshop was extremely insightful with eminent workers in the field of disability giving presentations and viewpoints. Representatives from the government -- for example, Meenu Bhambhani, former Assistant Commissioner, Persons with Disabilities, Rajasthan and Consultant World Bank; Pradeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Disability, Karnataka; and T.D. Dhariyal, Deputy Chief Commissioner - Persons with Disability, shared their knowledge and experience. Justice A.K. Sikri represented the law and the judicial system.
