Braille computers for blind schools in Tamil Nadu

D.N.I.S. News Network -Government schools for the blind in Tamil Nadu will soon receive Braille computers as part of the State Government’s efforts to upgrade the training programme and to make blind students computer-savvy.

Five Braille computers with a special audio software will be given to the Government Higher Secondary School for the Blind at Poonamalle. The audio software will enable students to listen to the commands and voice them to operate the computer at the same time.

This is the first time modern technology is being introduced in the government blind school. The computers are meant for Class XI and XII students and the Government will appoint two part-time teachers to teach them. Computers will also be given to Government Girls Higher Secondary School for the Blind in Tiruchirapalli.

In another initiative, the Braille press that was in disuse for many years at the Government Higher Secondary School for the Blind at Poonamalle will be revived at the earliest. The school is distributing Braille textbooks to 10 Government-run blind schools.
