D.N.I.S. News Network, India: The International Film Festival of India (I.F.F.I.) will be held in Goa this year. In view of this, special lifts have been installed in theatres so that disabled moviegoers can also enjoy a slice of reel life at the event. Digambar Kamat, Chief Minister, Goa recently inaugurated this facility in two theatres at Maquinez Palace, Panaji.
Disability Rights Association of Goa (D.R.A.G.) had been pressing the Government for disabled friendly lifts at the Maquinez for a very long time now. Avelino D’Sa, President, D.R.A.G. said, “People frequently visit Maquinez for other functions and I.F.F.I. is not the only reason that people come here.”
The Chief Minister however fails to see this as a piece meal effort. "This facility will benefit disabled people to gain access to theatres in Maquinez. This has been a long standing demand of disabled people and now they are satisfied. It will give them an opportunity to watch movies here," he said.
A move to make I.N.O.X. disabled friendly is also in the offing.
