Special bus makes its maiden run

DNIS News Network -- On November 22, the first Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus with a ramp for physically challenged persons made its maiden run

The first Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus with a ramp for physically challenged persons made its maiden run on November 22, bringing much joy to thousands of differently-abled persons who had been campaigning for just such a mode of transport.

The 1999-model CNG bus made its way from the office of Samarthya (Centre for Promotion of Barrier Free Environment for Disabled Persons) in Mansarovar Garden, to Shastri Bhawan.

During its maiden run, the bus carried on board four persons with different disabilities. Two of them were Anjlee Agarwal and Sanjeev Sachdeva, both founder members of Samarthya and members of the National Core Access Committee constituted to work on the project.
